Born out of the second edition of the Growing the Future conference held last December at the Albergo dei Poveri (University of Genoa), the photo exhibition "Abilità atletiche" (Athletic Abilities) explores the concept of physical ability while celebrating the diversity of bodies in sports.

Through a series of intense, authentic photographic portraits, the exhibition invites viewers to look at athletic bodies beyond traditional aesthetic standards and conventional definitions of "ability." Sport thus becomes a lens to explore bodily diversity in all its forms: bionic bodies, athletes with disabilities, transgender individuals, youth, adults, and simply real bodies—each carrying a unique story. Every photograph captures the strength and beauty of those who chose to challenge themselves, break through barriers, and transform their bodily experience into vital, communicative energy.

The exhibition encourages deep reflection on the true meaning of "ability": not as a metric of performance, but as the capacity to be present and to inhabit the body as a realm of identity, connection, and potential. In an era where body image is frequently standardized or filtered, "Abilità atletiche" restores authenticity and plurality, affirming that every body is worthy of representation.

The exhibition will be open to the public at Palazzo Ducale from 14 to 30 November 2025.

The press conference and official opening will take place on Friday, 14 November at 10:15 AM at the Sala della Poesia in Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale. In addition to institutional greetings, the programme features narrative and artistic presentations to provide deeper insight into the exhibition.
