UniGe Campaign Against Harassment and Discrimination

"Oh, come on, have a laugh!"
"It was just a joke!"
"You really can't say anything anymore!"

How many times have we thought or said those things? How many times have we heard them?
Paying attention to the words we use is not easy, it’s something we must do every day. It takes effort to put ourselves in the shoes of the person targeted by that "joke".

Thinking about the words we use and their impact, whether explicit or implicit, is key to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment in both our studies and our work.

The University of Genoa, through its Equal Opportunities Committee, has joined UniTrento’s #finiscequi campaign to push back against all harmful comments based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, or religion...
You’ll start seeing posters around the university and on social media with some common phrases that might seem harmless at first, but when you dig a little deeper, you realize they hide discrimination, exclusion, and harassment. Words that isolate, hurt, and push people to the margins.

Our university is a community, a place where we shape the future, promote research, and support everyone’s well-being. Fighting discrimination, embracing differences, and creating a welcoming space for all that’s what we stand for.
UniGe firmly condemns harassment, discrimination, and exclusion and stands by those who face them. If you ever need support or want to talk about any issues, the Confidential Advisor, Listening Point, the Equal Opportunities Committee, or the Joint Guarantee Committee are here to help you.

Starting September 2024, you’ll see posters and bookmarks with phrases that challenge discrimination popping up on our campuses. Because at UniGe, discrimination ends here: #finiscequi
