Words, however, must be understood and used correctly. For this reason, we have decided to create a special glossary, “The Words of the Equal Opportunity Committee (CPO),” to help people navigate both old and new terms, especially those we may have doubts about or have never given much thought to before.
Many of these terms derive from the glossary of the gender-inclusive language guidelines, a very useful tool that helps us write more thoughtfully and reflect more carefully on every lexical choice we make.
We are launching this initiative symbolically on March 8, 2024, starting with the term “Equal Opportunities,” a concept that represents our way of seeing and describing the world, also through a more conscious use of language.
The glossary will be published on UniGe’s social media channels and will also be available on our website. The Words of the CPO will be constantly evolving, continuously updated, and attentive to the diverse needs involved in “naming the world.”
